Pointing out that the World Clean-up Day, “Let's Do It!” environmental cleaning awareness movement was held simultaneously with 169 countries on September 21 in a limited number of regions of Northern Cyprus with the participation of various organizations as well as the council, Dr. Ahmet Savaşan pointed out that the clean-up day failed and that Northern Cyprus needs to be cleaned at the same time with the participation of hundreds of thousands of people as in Slovenia.
Slovenia was cleared by 270,000 volunteers.
Dr. Ahmet Savaşan, President of the Health Tourism Council, reminded that Slovenia, which smelled, got sick and became a garbage dump due to the illegal dumping of about 2 million cubic meters of waste in different regions, was called “let's clean it in one day” in 2010 and that the municipalities reached 270,000 volunteers with the project launched, and emphasized that although the country could not be cleaned in one day, a real awareness was created on this issue and Slovenia woke up and has now become one of the cleanest countries in the world.
The reason for the pollution is that the state owns the mountain and the municipality owns the street...
“We are a people who know what cleanliness is, who believe that cleanliness comes from faith, who sweep in front of their houses, who are ashamed to open their doors to their neighbors when their houses are dirty. It is not possible to understand why our streets, beaches, picnic areas and surroundings are so dirty while the inside of our houses are so clean.” Savaşan pointed out that the reason for the pollution is the transfer of the mountains and stones to the state and the streets and parks to the municipality.
We must see every corner of the country as our home...
Stating that the Turkish Cypriot people, who have cleanliness in their genes, can first carry out a real cleaning in their country and then enable a culture that will not allow it to be polluted to flourish again, Savaşan underlined that this can only be possible by seeing every corner of the country as our home.
Our concern is a sustainable life...
“We also need to wake up and wake up now. Waste not only spoils the beauty of nature, but also endangers the quality of drinking water, air, soil and habitat in general.” Savaşan said, “Our problem is not to criticize the cutting down of two trees, not collecting garbage, or generating energy with non-renewable resources such as thermal power plants used in our country. Our problem is to check what we consume while producing and its alternatives, to draw attention to the need to evaluate which side of the scale weighs more. Our concern is a sustainable life.”.
Before 2019 ends, let's clean our country like our home...
Emphasizing that a handful of volunteer groups showed sensitivity on World Clean-up Day and carried out a symbolic cleaning in the country, Dr. Ahmet Savaşan called for a real mobilization campaign to be launched before the end of 2019 with the participation of the President, Prime Minister, politicians, municipalities, non-governmental organizations, sportsmen, fan groups, artists, students and volunteers, and said “let's clean our country like our home”.
